Hearing loss is one of the most common medical conditions in impoverished countries. Those with hearing impairments are often socially excluded and lack schooling due to their inability to communicate.

Hearing impairment can be caused by a multitude of conditions. However each of these conditions has a coinciding treatment that can be administered.

Train doctors

Our main goal. During each mission we provide courses and training sessions specializing in deafness. After 5 years of training we hope to create autonomous teams comprised of doctors, surgeons and specialized health personnel.

Operate on those with the most serious conditions

Tumors (cholesteatoma), including those that are benign, are fatal due to their potentially destructive properties that may affect the auditory system, facial nerves and the meninges in conjunction with their capacity to spread into the brain. These tumors must be operated on under a microscope with specialized medical materials.

Certain cases of hearing loss may be improved by replacing the auditory ossicles with micro hearing aid implants.
One of our future goals is to provide care for those with malformations of the auricle.

Diagnose deaf individuals

Discovering hearing loss in adolescents and adults is rather easy due to the fact that they exhibit clinical symptoms that are easily detectable. Certain conditions are difficult to diagnose due to the fact that the origin of hearing loss is undetectable under microscopes. In contrast, diagnosing young children is very complex and requires costly equipment. By miniaturizing this equipment we hope to rapidly improve this diagnostic procedure.

Improve provided health care

Surgery is not the only form of treatment. For individuals with partial hearing loss, external hearing aids are often the only form of treatment available. During our missions we travel with hearing aids for as many children as possible thanks to the support of our new partnerships. Other associations work to teach sign language to individuals with complete and bilateral hearing loss.
